First learn the name of the ukulele (C) tuning) strings: 1A, 2E, 3C, 4G
Also know that these same notes are found at the 12th fret.
Any note can be found on the next lowest string either 5 frets down or 4 frets down
- Look at the purple A on the first string
- move to the second string (E) and count 5 frets you will find another purple A
- move to the next lowest string (C) and count 4 frets you will find another purple A
- Move to the next lowest the 4th string G and count 5 frets and there you will see another purple A.

Capo Tip--from Joy P.
Is the music you are playing too low to sing? Try this special little Ukulele capo: it does not get in the way of playing like the guitar capos. The D'Addario Planet Waves NS Ukulele Capo is the perfect size for the ukulele’s four strings--much smaller and more comfortable to use on a ukulele than many others designed for larger instruments. Rather than clipping on, there is a thumb screw to tighten the capo once it is in position. The D'Addario capo is available at Long & McQuade here in London.
